Scary, Very ScaryA movie you can't forget, ever. Great actors, first class movie. Glenn Close at her best, they were the best pair to play the parts, a real thriller. [by sharon]
Great Suspense, but This Story Drags Up a Few Pet Peeves...Loved this movie when it came out, but I always was a bit uncomfortable with the depiction of Michael Douglass as victim. Yes, the Glenn Close character was an over-the-top psycho, and perhaps it was that great performance she did, that allowed the Michael Douglass character to be off the hook quite a bit. We are first given a picture of a man with a seemingly wonderful home life and career. His wife is beautiful, smart, attentive, etc. But despite that, first chance he gets, he enters into a weekend long affair with another woman. And his casual behavior about it (for example, when he wakes up the next morning, there is no touch of remorse, and he even agrees to stay on the whole weekend) suggests this is a regular thing for him. In other words, he has it all and feels entitled.
Despite all that psychotic behavior, I couldn't get past his attitude. Another pet peeve? The movie is purported to do a lot for monogamy. Wow. Not sticking with your spouse, because they love you, but sticking with your spouse because you don't want to get caught up with a psycho. That's a sad comment on marriage, don't you think? But for sheer suspenseful entertainment, this one delivers.
