Farah Cookabout this book: City of Skies is about a brave young girl, Nora Hunt who embarks on an unknown journey. Her mission is to become a Jarl Raider and to find her father. When she meets the eccentric Frederick Dahl, she knows he can't be ordinary, but then, neither is she…
Shadowislands gains inspiration from the Scandinavian culture, and is rooted in Norse mythology and has a fictional perspective to it. The Triangle of Peace is based on values from American culture versus Nordic norms.
The novel will appeal to YA readers of all ages.
It took me one year to write the book, after I had a dream. The title was clear to me from the start, and had to do with islands and shadows because of the mysterious elements in the story.
The cover took a very long time to design, and is based on the main female protagonist in the story, Nora Hunt. I changed it several times, and had a talented artist draw Nora up for me. It took two weeks to complete. Then out of the blue one day, someone designed a different book cover, and I was hooked as the image captured all the elements that appear in the story – mystery, danger, love and the unknown.
The hardest part was to drip feed the suspense and to make the story interesting. It was a real challenge to keep the characters interesting and volatile at the same time – especially someone like Frederick Dahl. He's very hot and cold at the same time. Someone Nora is instantly attracted to
I did a lot of research on the book – the research took longer than the actual writing.
