Thea Hartleyabout this book: War was inevitable.

This story will give the reader an insight into reactions of communities before, and during WW2.
It follows the trials and tribulations of the Morgan family in South Wales, especially their daughter Sophie, who has dreams of being a dancer.
Sophie becomes engaged to her Ballroom dancing partner Brian, and they try to organise a wedding quickly, fearing war will break out.
However, Sophie has met and become attracted to Harry, an entrepreneur who pursues her ardently. This brings doubt into her mind, but she decides dancing is the most important aspect of her life and continues to prepare her marriage to Brian.
Life nevertheless brings unexpected surprises and doesn't go in the direction expected. Sophie gets caught up in in an exciting opportunity which makes her consider her life prospects.
War breaks out. The whole family are affected in one way or another. More problems occur and people come in and out of their lives.
Bebe, Sophie's cousin lives in London and finds herself in the middle of the war. She also has personal problems which cannot be resolved and writes to Sophie for help.
Sophie travels to her cousin's side where they experience the trauma of the blitz.

A gripping story which is full of atmosphereThis book gripped me from the start. It depicts two young women happily shopping. They do not have a care in the world. When they meet two men the fun becomes even more enticing. However War soon comes into their lives and everything changes. Loved ones are called up, the women go to work in a munitions factory and romances are fleeting.
Sophie, one of three main characters, is asked by her cousin to visit her in London, where she is in a terrible predicament. Sophie visits her and they both get caught up in the London blitz. They attempt to flee to the countryside and eventually back home to Wales. This part of the story is compelling as you followtheir journey.
