Arlene Rains Graberabout this book: This novel was created from the author's three-week trip to Provence France. Yes, there are five women on this trip also, but unlike the authors trip with women of a certain age, the book traces the antics of four forty-year-old women, and one sixty-year-old woman who get into mischief and have numerous adventures. The women all have professional careers, run a family and household and do not have time for women friendships. As a means of escape from their robotic lives, an opportunity is made available at a town hall meeting for a trip to France. Without hesitation, each woman signs up.
The title comes from the groups experiences each evening at cocktail hour sitting around a large plane tree in the front yard of their rented farmhouse. The cover is an actual photograph from the author's trip.
Readers of this novel are interested in France and the women's sightseeing adventures, but also how five women can live together for three weeks and how it changed their lives. It was a joy to write and I'm hoping that the important message of friendship touches each reader.
