Brenda Whitesideabout this book: Inspiration for Amanda in the Summer came to me from a wedding invitation. I opened the envelope and pulled out a folded 8 ½ x 11 piece of paper. Because of the way it was folded, I immediately saw the words Amanda and summer. The words evoked an image of a woman, relaxing in the sun on the beach. For some reason, I saw her pregnant. That's just one of those odd story ideas that seem to spring from nowhere. Receiving a folded paper in the mail probably gave rise to using letters to tell the story.
Amanda sat on the beach writing a letter to her good friend. I knew at once the child within in her would be named Amanda as was her mother. I wanted a story of women and friendship…friendship that surpasses hardships, lies, and sorrow. Love is the bond.
This story took more research than most of my full-length novels. Several generations are spanned. The name Amanda is of Latin origin and means love or worthy of love. An occurrence called the Venus Transit plays a part. I discovered these two facts while researching. The way it all came together is rather magical in my mind.

Divas of Desire Blog: This is a story of mothers and daughters, love and friendship, and the decisions we all have to make. I recommend Amanda in the Summer to readers who enjoy women's fiction…
