about this book: I read a detailed description of Bents "Old Fort" on the Santa Fe Trail and thought it would make a great setting for a hero seeking a new life in the west. Justin is not truly a cowboy as he does not herd cattle, but he is truly a western hero of a great adventure.
St. Louis desperately needed Mexican gold and silver in the 1830s to keep growing. Trade on the Santa Fe Trail increased dramatically. Bent & St. Vrain's trade area encompassed the Trapper's trail, Santa Fe and Fort Laramie. It included Taos, Santa Fe and St. Louis. Justin Tolliver takes charge of operating the fort and defending it from enemies.
High Plains Fort presents a number of interesting characters that range from a faithful dog to a runaway slave. Some are some good people and some thoroughly bad. Most are typical of the early settlement of the west. The story also includes some romance, most left to the reader's imagination.
