Charlene Tess

Author Charlene Tessabout this book: I was born and raised in Texas, and I have always enjoyed reading books about the Old West and cowboys. I decided to do some extensive research about the 1860s and then wrote a Western Historical Romance that could very easily have been a true story.

When a lovely young woman's parents die, Sara White is left alone on the frontier in Nebraska to run the family apple orchard and take care of her four-year-old brother, Adam. She might have managed if it had not been for a series of unfortunate events that nearly ruined her life. Her no-good half-brother wants the farm for himself, her father has not paid the taxes on the farm and left it heavily mortgaged. Then, to top it off, little Adam comes down with influenza and needs her care.

If it hadn't been for the kind couple at the general store, Sara and Adam could have been in real trouble. They introduce her to a handsome young cowboy who is stranded in Ogallala at the end of a cattle drive. Sara hires him to work for room and board and help her with the apple crop.

The harvested apple crop does not bring in enough cash to pay the mortgage, and the banker refuses to accept a partial payment. Wilbur plans to take over the farm if Sara cannot meet the deadline.

Jeremiah Boyd finds a home and a purpose with Sara and Adam, and he suggests a plan to ensure their future. He proposes to take the profit from the apple crop and ride back to Texas, put together a herd of Longhorn cattle, and drive the cattle north to sell to the government.

Jeremiah tells Sara to trust him, and he rides off with her heart and her future in his hands.
