Kate Benzinabout this book: This book is a true story about living through the harrowing experience of a Volcanic eruption. It is filled with amazing photos taken by Rudy as we fled (or tried to flee) an impending disaster. Our very lives were at stake as we ran for safety.
We lived only nine miles from an active volcano-- Mt. Merapi -- in the heart of Indonesia. Though our friends thought we were crazy to live so close to a volcano, the view from our windows was spectacular. We thought we were in the "safe" zone and were told that the lava always went the "other" way. Apparently volcano's don't respect safe zones because this time, the lava headed straight toward us. This is our amazing story in photos and narrative.
I am an expat American living and working in Indonesia which is now my home. I now spend most of my time writing in my home/office just north of Yogyakarta in Central Java.
