Jean Brannon

Author Jean Brannonabout this book: I see a world where we are gorging on information and starving for wisdom. Where by default we are abuser or victim because we no longer honor or even recognize self-worth and an individual's own power. As an acupuncturist, I see how Eastern mysticism's ancient teachings can nourish and empower. And I wish to change the conversation accordingly.

I want wisdom to have a voice in popular culture. I want self-worth to become worthwhile. I want tantric self-empowerment to replace "50 Shades" sadism as "the new sexy" by offering "Atlantis Writhing" as a love story based as much on mutual respect as magnetic attraction.

Consciously created to weave age-old Taoist and New Thought self-healing and self-empowerment into its pages, "Atlantis Writhing" explores love as the key to positive social change against the backdrop of a civilization courting self-destruction. Combining "Star Trek" fantasy with "Way Of The Peaceful Warrior" inspiration all wrapped up in a "Like Water For Chocolate" romance, "Atlantis Writhing" uplifts, inspires, and empowers today's readers.

Yet "Atlantis Writhing" began as a self-healing project. It all started when my life changed overnight on July 15, 2013. That's when Greg Hagin, my beloved life partner of 13 years, died suddenly. Leaving me to run a joint holistic healing practice, manage a 12-acre farm, and find my natural Polyanna attitude again toward life.

In the wake of Greg's death, I decided the best way for me to heal - to reclaim "my life" as opposed to what had become "our life" - was to use all the ancient wisdom Chinese medicine had taught me. And do my best to weave it into a love story. A healthy love story. A tale of two self-empowered souls whose love goes way deeper than surface attraction. A book that honored all I had shared with Greg, balanced with page-turning events of a crumbling civilization, betrayal, and an impossible mission of doing what's right. While also incorporating self-healing and self-empowering guidance gleaned from age-old Asian traditions and New Thought ideas.

And so, two days after Greg's memorial service, I sat down at the computer and decided to write. Really write. No matter how bad the words sounded or how much I didn't feel like it. I committed to writing without judgment, without editing, and without missing a day until a first draft was finished.

I told nobody what I was doing. I abstained from movies and television and the radio to eliminate any outside influences and to be able to write as purely as possible from a meditative place. Every day, after treating acupuncture patients and finishing farm chores, I would meditate and then sit at the computer. And allow this crazy dream of writing a meaningful novel to keep unfolding.

Then on March 7, 2014, I saved the first draft of "Atlantis Writhing's" final chapter. Many revisions followed, leading to the book now published by Absolute Love Publishing and widely available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple iBooks, and other outlets.

Currently, I'm completing Book Two in this Highest Light trilogy from my metro-Atlanta home, which I share with my rescue pups Rosey and Connell.
