Author Vinnie Apicellaabout this book: Escape from America is intended for a broad audience that is not limited by age, gender, or class. Anyone with an interest to truly "know" America and better understand its people will learn something; anyone with an interest to truly "know" China as a potential destination for studying, relocating, or doing business will learn something; and for anyone who is not satisfied with the status quo and feels there are better ways forward, this book will inspire them.

Many writers write to inform; I write to inform and incite. I want to incite a reaction out of each and every reader with this book. I want to change their perception and persuade them to think critically, not just about America, not just about China, but the place they call "home" and their place in it. By the conclusion, they may agree or disagree but they won't be indifferent. I use the term "enlighten" within the text as a sort of brethren to "truth"; I present the plain truth in the pages of this work; anything less would come across as fake and dilute the intended impact. Inside, readers will find pointed words and criticisms toward America—things that may surely incur the wrath of several Americans; readers will also find those same pointed words toward China, not with an intent to insult, but an intent to incite. Everything written within these pages comes from a place of honesty, which is something I believe everyone will appreciate.

This book is not politically motivated. It is designed as a cultural exchange to help us all improve our understanding of one another while better understanding ourselves.
