Author Danica M. Davidabout this book: “Creative Callaloo Art, Poems, and Recipes Inspired by the Virgin Islands” is a gorgeous hardcover edition where art, poetry, and recipes create a real eclectic mix of colors, words, and flavors. The vibrantly illustrated book also showcases the culture, and history of the U. S. Virgin Islands.

I joined forces with poet Winifred “Oyoko” Loving and chef Mark E. Davis to create this very original book for all tastes and ages. Scrumptious nutritional recipes from chef Mark and passionate poems from poet “Oyoko” surround my art and photography.

It has always been my dream to showcase Virgin Islands culture in a book. “Creative Callaloo” is based on my admiration and passion for art, poetry, and food, all of which have been integral to my life growing up on the island of St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands. The book features the nuances of Virgin Islands culture, its vibrant colors, flavors, and textures. “Creative Callaloo” includes inspired traditional recipes such as callaloo, the Vienna Cake, and more.

This is my first book where I share fond memories of my late grandmothers. “Creative Callaloo” book is also a retrospective of my twenty-year career as an artist, and has given me a fantastic opportunity to celebrate my home and my passion while sharing Virgin Islands culture. If you don’t know much about the culture—you will after reading this book. “Creative Callaloo” is visually appealing from beginning to end.
