Book: Bahrain Underwater Portraits (Bahrain Nature Book 1) by Jouko Tapio Kärkeläcategories: Book, Marine Biology, Ecology, Bahrain, Arabian Gulf, Nature Photography, Underwater Photography
Jouko Tapio Kärkeläabout this book: This booklet is an introduction to Bahrain's shallow water marine life as it exists in our days. This is a photographer's journey to Bahrain's underwater world revealing the most common biotopes and species of flora and fauna with 53 high quality photographs.
Ecological considerations are highlighted based on author's personal experiences in Bahrain's marine life during the last 20 years. The aim of this book is also to inform people of that ecocatastrophe which is in progress in Bahrain waters at the moment.
The species presented on the pages of this book are still very common in Bahrain. Paradoxically, some species like sepias, blue swimming crabs and upside-down jellyfishes seem to thrive quite well also on areas where there is a lot of human effect (e.g. fishing harbors). Almost every swimmer is able to see the flora and fauna presented in this booklet during a normal snorkeling trip in shallow water, especially when snorkeling regularly. And this is also the main purpose of this text: I hope that it works as a short introduction to Bahrain shallow water marine life – that life which still exists there in our days.
