Roxana Reynoldsabout this book: My book is a self help book for parents and carers of a child with type 1 diabetes. Plenty of thought and time went into this book. Having had a child diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, myself, I know only too well how the initial diagnosis puts you in a state of shock. You feel vulnerable and scared and wonder how you will cope.
With our experiences I wrote this book in a non medical way, straight from the heart. I tell it as it really is! I have covered everything to ensure the reader gains knowledge and confidence in all aspects of this chronic relentless disease.
This book took 4 years to put together to ensure I covered everything relevant from going away to sick days. There is information about ketones, DKA, carbohydrate counting, sports dilemmas plus the added bonus of real stories from parents in the same boat.
When my son was diagnosed there were no support groups, so I felt very alone as I battled daily with a disease that cast a dark shadow over my toddler. I scoured the Internet for all the information I could take in. I realised knowledge was power and decided I would help other parents like myself. Years later I set up a support page on Facebook for parents, set up a website and raised awareness on type 1 diabetes. This paved the way for my book.
