Valerie Astillabout this book: This book is the true account of an exciting holiday that commenced in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil (Coconuts) and took me and my husband via the Pantanal and the Amazon rainforest up into the Peruvian Andes (Condors)and across the Altiplano to Lake Titicaca, finishing at La Paz in Bolivia. We travelled with a mixed group of people who became good friends as we shared experiences, both good and bad, anticipated and unforeseen.
On our return, we showed off our holiday photographs and described our adventures, which were recorded in a diary, and several people suggested that I should write a book. I was then too busy with full time employment and other responsibilities but once I had retired, I decided to see whether this was something I could achieve.
I wrote the first draft and then joined a creative writing class to see what others thought of my efforts. The criticism I received was difficult to accept but very useful and as a result, I changed my style of writing completely. This paid off as I managed to get my book published by Pneuma Springs Publishing, whose details I had found on the internet.
I find marketing the book quite difficult as, having grown up in the age before computers were invented, I do not feel comfortable with the idea of blogging, tweeting or venturing on to sites like Facebook, etc. so nearly all my sales have been made by face to face contact or, in the case of libraries and bookshops, by letter or e-mail. However, I found out how to create my own website and have received several excellent reviews, by e-mail or through my publisher, which I have included on this website.
