Roger E. Brunerabout this book: PROJECT MUFFINTOP is about a teen girl who gets the guy who's her best friend to help her diet to attract a prom date and maybe even a boyfriend. What she doesn't know is her best friend wants to be her boyfriend, but he's afraid of ruining their friendship if he tells her how he feels and finds she doesn't feel the same way about him.
Although the two stories are basically different, PROJECT MUFFINTOP shares some of the same relationship problems two mid-lifers experience in IMPRACTICALLY YOURS.
Because I like to write what I enjoy reading, I'd like to believe PROJECT MUFFINTOP will appeal to adults as well--perhaps it might even be considered a family novel.
The book cover has quite a history. I'd seen an advertisement of a muffin mold in the shape of a girl's jean shorts, but when I realized I wanted to use that on the cover, I almost gave up finding one. Ultimately, ebay had them for about $1.25 each, no postage and handling.
Not only that, they were shipped from China and came amazingly fast!
Taking the picture and getting it just right is a story for another time and place, but suffice it to say my wife couldn't get a real muffin to spill over just right at the waist. So I ended up cutting the top off a whole muffin and setting it on the mold. Then the headaches really began--getting the contrast just right so the viewer could see what the muffin mold represents.
I have fun writing. My books are all what I would call quirky-but-clean. There's always some outrageous humor, but also a number of serious aspects.
Isn't that what a good novel should do--make the reader laugh and cry?
