Tierney Jamesabout this book: After living in an Ozark mining community for 25 years I realized many stories no one would ever hear lie buried deep in my heart. The culture in a mining town is rich with pride and a can do attitude. Neighbors depend on each other and love is passionate. When the one you love goes a thousand feet into the earth each day, you better make sure there are no regrets when you say goodbye in the morning.
The title The Rescued Heart came from knowing many of the mine rescue teams over the years. They are across the United States serving tirelessly to spring into action when there's a mine accident. The mine rescue team in our town won many awards for their excellent ability to get the job done. It was their story that helped shape this book.
Mine captain, Garrett Horton is part of that rescue team. He's a country boy with good looks and an engineering degree that irritates the owner of Turnbough Lead Company. He's also a throne in the old man's side because Garrett wants two things in life; his daughter Fawn, and to own the lead mines. Garrett lost Fawn once because of some unknown event she'd never talk about. Running from the truth finally led her back to try and make his life miserable. Only this time Garrett planned to rescue her from a heart made of lead. The price might be to give his life in exchange to save her deceitful father.
One of the interesting things I learned was how to use explosives and cave in a mine. Fortunately my husband is a mine engineer and educated me on all the ins and outs of mining. I also took a class on mining at a college in St. Louis.
