Book: The Dealership by Michael Brontecategories: Book, Cars, Salesman, Crime, Detective, Suspense Thriller
Michael Bronteabout this book: A lot of this book is taken from personal experience, having worked in a car dealership in my early years where the owners were arrested for embezzlement. I expanded on that experience to create a story about an everyday guy just trying to make good, and getting tangled up in some nefarious dealings through no fault of his own. The setting is Jamaica Queens in 1985 in the middle of the crack epidemic that overran the city in the mid 80s. That in itself is enough to tell you it's a gritty story, and the characters reflect it.
Main character Carmen Madrid finally got his opportunity when he moved up from the shop to become a hotshot salesman. Life was good—for a while—but if you didn't sell, you didn't earn, and Carman has to resort to other means to make ends meet. Some of those other means weren't so noble. Money laundering, drug peddling and pornography were all part of the story, and it wasn't long before Carmen had to make a choice: be an honest salesman, or take the big money from the "side jobs" the dealership offered.
Travel with Carmen through the gritty world of fast cars and faster women, organized crime and racketeering. Does Carmen do the right thing, or does he become just another punk trying to get over on others before they get over on him? Find out how he walks the line between decency and depravity, and see if he comes out on top.
