June Summers

Author June Summersabout this book: Let Freedom Ring was my first novel co-authored with my daughter, Wendelin (Wendy) Saunders. At the time, Wendy and I ran a forever home for unwanted, abused, and discarded animals. Despite that we both worked full time, we still struggled to keep up with the cost of housing and feeding forty dogs, twenty-two cats, and six rabbits. We tried numerous ways to get funds. We painted unique designs on tennis shoes and tried to sell them at fairs and craft shows. That didn't work. We officially became a 501c3 charitable organization, hoping to solicit donations. No luck there either. After several other unsuccessful schemes, Wendy came up with a very unique plot for a book, and we decided to go with it. After several attempts and many years, the book was finally published. However, by then it was too late for the animals and Wendy. Before it was published, she lost her battle with cancer, and I, being an old lady by then, had to find other forever homes for our remaining beloved animals.
