Casey Haysabout this book: The Cadence is the story of Emma King, a high school senior with a gift she didn't ask for–the ability to feel someone's emotions with one touch. Abandoned at three days old, Emma's only parent is her adoptive father, King. She lives with him in a group home for unwanted children, along with other foster kids, including Jay, with his heightened eyesight, and Pastor, whose sense of hearing is beyond imagination. Emma doesn't know where she came from or how the three of them ever ended up in the same place. But then... Gage Parmer moves to town with all the answers. He's mysteriously quiet and seemingly emotionless, and Emma's not sure she can trust him at first, but when she finally lets him get close, he pulls her into a world she never imagined where she is expected to play the lead role.
Before taking on this endeavor, I was a high school English teacher. My love of teenagers and YA fiction prompted me to eventually write my own book. So in 2008, I spent three months bringing Emma and the gang to life. Lucky for me, a small publishing company in Colorado Springs, The Grumpy Dragon, finally took a chance on me, and here we are!
The editing and publishing process taught me more than I ever knew about getting a book to print. After several grueling months of revising and editing and perfecting; after changing the title three times for various reasons; after finding just the right people to pose for the book cover, we finally had ourselves a novel we could be proud of.
I don't regret a single minute of it!

AmazingGreat characters, good plot, and captivating writing. Each chapter was filled with more and more interesting things that just pushed me forward. I could barely stop reading, even when I had to eat or go to bed.
