Author Art S. Liebermanabout this book: I wrote The Art of Focus after years of researching and writing about stress on the Stress Relief 4 Teachers blog. I was tired of getting slowed down and feeling like I wasn't accomplishing everything I wanted to do.

As I researched, I discovered that I wasn't, nor were most people doing the easy things they needed to do to get focused and reach their own goals.

To write the book, I went deeper than ever before into the research.

As I read the research, I discovered something, famous people often say things about productivity that isn't backed up by science.

Just to be clear, that doesn't mean that they are wrong, it just means that people doing scientific research haven't decided to look at it.

For instance, I've been interested in a quote by the very quotable Jim Rohn, "You are the average of the 5 people that you spend the most time with..."

I hear this quoted over and over again, but I've had a hard time finding research to back it up. And it might be true. I just haven't found the studies.

The Art of Focus is simply a discussion of 10 of the easiest things you can do to think better, backed by science, put forward in a way that anyone can understand.

The most common thing people say about the book is that they were expecting to hear the same old ideas, but that they discovered things they had not thought about before.

I enjoyed writing it. Every minute. It lit up my brain to do it.

I would come home after a day of teaching middle school, sit down at the computer, look at my finished outline, set the timer for 5 minutes, close my eyes and write. I love starting off with that sprint.

After that 5 minutes, I would settle down to a more reasonable pace for the next 90 minutes or more. My goal was to write at least a thousand words on each topic and for that topic to make sense to anyone who read about it.

After writing the book, many readers have asked me about The Big Why. They want more.

That's what I'm researching and working on for book II.
