Sandra Joinesabout this book: Recovering from spine surgery can be rough. After procedures related to a laminectomy, discectomy, spinal fusion, etc., we find ourselves faced with challenges we did not expect to be quite as difficult as they turned out to be. Even though we were told about NO BLT (No bending, lifting, or twisting), the extent of our limitations caught us off guard, as did many other challenges.
Before surgery, my husband and I worked hard to find ways to make our home a better environment to accommodate the restrictions I would face after surgery. They were easy things such as efficiently setting up the bathroom, bedroom, etc. After surgery, I discovered simple answers to difficult tasks related to such things as personal hygiene–things we never consider until they look us square in the eye.
I decided to help others by sharing what I had learned through what seemed like a never-ending healing period by writing Spine Surgery Recovery. This small book is full of practical, easy-to-follow ideas to help patients better navigate through their recovery period. It's an excellent reference for patients who are recovering from any type surgery that causes physical challenges during the healing process.
