Book: Marco and I Want To Play Ball - a true story of inclusion and self-determination by Jo Meserve Machcategories: Book, Spina Bifida, Special Education, Baseball, Cousins, Grandpa, Disabilities, Sports, Special Needs
Jo Meserve Machabout this book: All our stories are true stories. We are working to have diversity in the disabilities, activities, race and culture we present. We had decided to we needed a sports story when we interviewed this family. Isiah, the young boy with Spina Bifida in the story, was totally into sports. His mother shared how he played soccer and baseball. She thought soccer would be a fun story so we sat and talked all about what Isiah liked to do as he played. Isiah was very quiet. Then as we were about to leave I asked her about baseball. Isiah rushed into the room and started telling us how he played with his cousin and Grandpa. He was so excited! We knew that had to be our story.
