Christian Kalliasabout this book: Earth Last Sanctuary is a space opera with Fantasy and Greek mythology weaved in the plot. I've always liked different styles and while SciFi is my favorite I still love Fantasy and always been attracted to Greek mythology. Sso it was a no brainer to choose to write about all these subjects at once. I also have a fondness for heroes with power, be it from comic books or manga, and this is also something I want to add in my stories.
Don't expect a by-the-book space opera, but if you like cross-genre, new ideas and also a commentary on some of today's problems with our world, I think you might enjoy Earth - Last Sanctuary (ELS). I like to make the reader think and question some of the things society has formatted in our brains, throw a "What if we did things this way for a change?". But there is still many typical space opera and space military in ELS, like epic space fleet battles and action pumping dogfight scenes throughout the book.
As for what inspired me to write, well there's Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Stargate SG-1, Farscape, Wing Commander (games and movie), Dragonball Z, Saint Seiya and many others.
Earth Last Sanctuary took 11 years to write. I know it's a long time, but when I started I did it mostly for fun, but when hit with a burnout in 2014 and realizing that I simply couldn't ignore my creative side anymore (I always created art since as long as I can remember, from drawings to illustrations to trying to create video games in the 90's), then I sat down and finished ELS in less than 3 months. I have since then finished the sequel and I'm already working on the third book of the Universe in Flames saga.
I also made my own cover art. While initially hiring an artist and not getting the result I had in mind, I ended up doing it myself. I'm quite happy with the result but keep in mind I've been a digital artist for more than 20 years, so it wasn't really anything new for me. But I did spend a good 100 to 150h (I lost track eventually) to bring the visuals for ELS to life just how I wanted them.
