Edward Farberabout this book: When you see an empty house in an old neighborhood, did you ever wonder about the people who had lived in it? What stories that house could tell? Author Edward Farber thought about it for a long time and the result is his collection of short stories, Echoes of Clara Avenue, now available as an Amazon Kindle ebook.
"I actually lived on an old block of houses and flats named Clara Avenue," he writes. "As a child, I often wondered about the neighbors—where they came from, what they did, their personal stories. That curiosity culminated in this collection of stories, some of which appeared previously in literary magazines."
The book takes you on a century-long stroll through time beginning in 1903 as you meet the unique characters who lived on fictional Clara Avenue, including a former outlaw trying to keep his identity a secret, a mother and daughter who encounter a ghostly lady in a red dress in their home, an immigrant boy who finds a unique way to get even with a hateful step-sister, a private detective in a 1930's caper, and an advertising artist on the brink of insanity. Thirteen stories in all, each as diverse as the characters who lived in the houses and flats you'll visit along the way.
"I'm an artist as well as an author and combined both talents in developing this book," Farber explains. "On the cover of the book is a scene I painted, entitled 'The Old Neighborhood, Clara and Minerva' one of a number of paintings I did from memory of my old neighborhood."
Come and take a brisk walk along Clara Avenue. You'll happily wonder who you will meet next.
