Author Mark C Suttonabout this book: 'Grandad Miller, Serial Killer' - The Complete Trilogy was originally e-published on Amazon in three installments. The book tells the story of Brian Miller, a gentleman in his seventies who has harbored a deadly secret for many years; when he was a youth, he killed three people, and escaped justice. Since the nineteen sixties, Brian has been able to control his murderous impulses, however, with the death of his beloved wife, Joan, Brian feels his terrible rage come to the surface once more.

One of the many useless 'gifts' I have been endowed with is an encyclopedic knowledge of serial killers. I had always fancied writing a factual book on the subject, but simply never got around to it. However, not too long ago, I woke up with the phrase 'Grandad Miller the Serial Killer' going around in my head, for some reason. That gave me the idea for a novel; why not have some elderly guy, who got away with triple murder years and years ago, suddenly start murdering again, as he approaches the end of his life? The first, early draft, was a lot darker than how the novel turned out (and that's dark enough in itself). My wife had a lot of input in the early stages with respect to making the story a bit more comedic; for example, disputes over prize marrow's, perms gone wrong, encountering an old school bully, all ending up in murder.

'Grandad Miller' took about eight weeks to write. I think the speed in which I wrote it is reflected in its incredibly fast-pace, which is exactly what I wanted; it was in stark contrast to the general view of the elderly as being slow and doddering.

The toughest challenge in writing 'Grandad Miller' was to keep it topped up with enough dark humour to regard it as a 'black comedy', rather than just a tale about an elderly serial killer. As I said earlier, if it hadn't been for my wife's input, I don't think I would have been able to do that.

I have plans for two spin-off novels in relation to 'Grandad Miller'; one definite - 'Lester One Nine Eight Six', and one not so definite - 'Grandma Miller, Spree Killer'.
