Carolyn Jerniganabout this book: Survival Girl is loosely based on my life. Tanya was overwhelmed early on when she had to constantly challenge a vicious gang in school. Unfortunately, her troubles wouldn't stop there. Her father was an alcoholic and often said cruel words to her. Eventually, Tanya was forced out. In my opinion her mother was the loving parent who helped her. However, people who read my book disagreed. They thought she was selfish and couldn't care about Tanya's pain. Shelly was her best friend even though they quarreled about her low life drug dealing boyfriend along with other trivial things, they remained buddies. Tanya started a journey maybe to find herself. She met a prostitute who she became close with, but later ended in disaster. Tanya wedded Deacon Pete who decided not to show up for the first wedding and the second one wasn't flawless. Tanya really loved Pete and their imperfect marriage (mush she did know about) wasn't a deterrent for her love. I wrote this book because I believe everybody went through some type of tragedy or know someone who did. Or just to read a serious good book.
