Book: Variants (Anathergians Book 1) by Michelle C. Reillycategories: Book, Romance, Paranormal, Fantasy, Aliens, Urban Fantasy, DNA, Battles, Science Fiction
Michelle C. Reillyabout this book: Variants is my first published book. I came up with the title Variants because I knew, when studying how DNA was used in an attempt to change humans into powerful Anathergians, the DNA used were variant strains. So, I thought the name Variants fit, as it sounds slightly sinister.
I made the cover for Variants. I've done graphics for many years, so I thought I'd have a go at it. It became quite a debate within my critique group, who are all romance writers. They wanted me to have a man with the chest showing, but I felt it wouldn't be good for the male demographic. You see, I had spoken to many men about Variants, and they all seemed to be interested in it and liked the cover. So, I didn't want to cut them out because Variants is a good book for both males and females.
Variants took me about five months to completely write. I took a lot of time with it with my super awesome critique group (yes, they're still awesome, even though they aren't a fan of my cover). They taught me a lot. But I also made sure to hire an editor, which is very important for every author. My editor gave me great feedback and really helped me improve the book as well.
Overall, this entire experience with writing and publishing has been wonderful. I've met a lot of great people. I hope to learn more and become an even better writer.
