C.P. Dobberthienabout this book: A Place For Whales is a science fiction novelette that features digital color illustrations. The book is essentially about the human exploitation of ocean dwelling animals such as whales, dolphins, and sharks to name a few. The human species is running out of crude oil and other raw energy resources. The various governments decide to hunt and capture major sea creatures and turn them into usable grades of bio-fuel.
This book offers a glimpse into our possible not too distant future. I wrote this book because of my general love of animals, and my restless fear that the exploitive nature of humans might destroy the other animals.
This book was written as juvenile fiction, but an adult could read and enjoy this book.
A Place For Whales took 5.5 years to write and illustrate. The title of this book comes from a line in the book from a pivotal point in the story. The base cover illustration was taken from an existing image in the book. The cover asks at least three relevant questions: 1)Why is this whale being pulled from the ocean? 2)Where is this whale being transported to? 3)What is going to happen to this whale after it arrives at its new home?
The hardest part of this book was not the writing process, although the writing of this book was not easy. The most difficult part of producing this book was bringing the artwork to a publishable level. Nine reference books were used in the production of this book. The first chapter exists to educate readers on the subject of whales, after all, this is essentially a book about whales.
This book taught me that I was capable of producing an interesting, well written book.
I would like the purchasers and readers of this book to know that I appreciate every single one of them. This book is the realization of a dream for me, to be a published author and illustrator. If this book succeeds(sellswell enough to warrant a second book) I have the general plot+ worked out for a very interesting sequel.
I hope that everyone who reads A Place For Whales enjoys the experience, and looks forward to my next offering.
