Anthony Sunderlandabout this book: An epic science fiction series following Janine Lewis' quest to discover her father's fate after his ship failed to return from the first mission to the stars in 2059.
So many TV shows and films about space exploration just left me thinking 'So what? ' Star Trek Enterprize was a total let down. Where was the drama, the suspense? We knew that Kirk and Picard were waiting in the future, so it all had to work out.
I wanted something that we can identify with, that resonates with people, and makes us ask what's out there? all over again. To give readers someone they could share the journey with, through all of its dangers and setbacks.
Janine is only 19 when her father sets sail, promising that he will be home for her 21st birthday. When a series of disasters lead to the abandonment of the search for him, she vows to continue, "Whatever it might cost me!"
The stakes couldn't be higher for her - or us. If this young woman's quest fails then we will never achieve our destiny and reach the stars.
I originally envisioned this as a TV series, with Alyson Hannigan playing the part of Janine. The quiet, mousey side you see in Willow will soon give way to a bolshie, loud, stubborn woman who won't take no for an answer.
