Joy V. Smith about this book: Taboo Tech is filled with a variety of characters: humans, aliens, AIs, robots, sentient plants, symbiotes, and smart ships of different types. (My editor had me make a list of characters, ships, planets, etc.; it's included to help readers. Oh, I may have forgotten a planet.) I'm a long time fan of Sharon Lee and Steve Miller--one of my favorite books of theirs is Balance of Trade--and I love their idea of old and forbidden technology--forbidden because it can be dangerous. In Taboo Tech, there are other dangers: villains (human and the unknown), that scary energy parasite, and the Interstellar Guard. I've written other science fiction stories with aliens, sentient plants, AIs, et al--also time machines--but I love aliens, smart ships (I love Anne McCaffrey's ships too), and Artificial Intelligences that may have their own agendas; and I have a lot of fun with my characters and space exploration and building on the frontier, including terraforming, even politics and princesses--and the importance of home and family.
