L.E. Thomasabout this book: The fifth book in the Star Runners Universe was an incredible experience to write and a challenging road to get published. I had been looking forward to writing Star Runners: Dark Space since the first book was released. After completing all the editing and production process, I'm so pleased with the final product.
The story was always going to follow Josh Morris, a recruiter for the Galactic Legion of Planets and Austin Stone's best friend, and his adventures when trying to keep a promise to the smuggling group that had allowed him to return to Earth in one of their ships. All of the characters are in a dark place when the novel opens. Austin had just been through a great deal during the events of the fourth book and Josh was struggling to find his place in the universe while holding down a "normal" job (although his desk job can be a bit boring).
However, Dark Space allowed me to open up the universe and show more planets, locations and different factions than any of the other books. Josh finds himself being hunted across the galaxy by creatures with deadly weaponry and technology never before seen. The book has mercenaries, assassins, intrigue, a hunt for a revolutionary ship capable of traversing the distance to Dark Space, and a floating Las Vegas-style city in the depths of space. In other words, this book takes the story away from the relative safety of the Galactic Legion of Planets. It was exciting to write, and I hoped some of my closest readers would think the same thing. Some in my advanced reader group told me the result was the best in the series. I couldn't ask for more.
I write these books because I can't imagine not doing so. But more than that, I cherish the entire process of sharing these little escapes with you guys. I just want these stories to be fun. I don't think I'll ever truly grasp the fact others are enjoying these stories that have existed in my head since I was young. You bless me with every page you read. Please never hesitate to contact me.
For now, stay frosty! See you in the stars!
