Gary Showalterabout this book: "A primer on Roses" is a very short but very complete manual on rose care. I spent much of my early years in grounds maintenance and was taught early on how to care for ornamentals. Especially roses. This little book covers just about everything a beginning gardener needs to know to purchase, plant and care for roses. It is written with an eye to clarity, and gives the reader not only the basics but the why behind the basics. Woven into the text are easy-to-understand explanations of how plants process the nutrients they pull out of the soil and just why that information is necessary to the gardener.
"A Primer on Roses" was written because I love roses and I have seen way too many badly treated or just plain neglected plants over the years. Plants that could thrive with a minimum of care if only the owner had an understanding of the basics behind plant care.
There are no pretty photos; the reader is welcome to walk out into his or her yard and look about all he or she wants. As short as this book is, it contains all the reader will need to know to select, plant and care for roses.
