Toni Noelabout this book: A boarded up three story house in Mission Hills inspired this novel about a reclusive architect and the gutsy graduate student who want to photograph his boarded up house to complete her Masters Degree. Large format photography was once hobby of mine, so I had no problem visualizing Amy setting up a big camera and going beneath a dark cloth to focus the lens.
The home's owner had lots of problems with Amy's insistence she be allowed to photograph his house, but her young daughter Marta promptly steals his heart. He goes to a gallery opening, views Amy's photographs for the first time, and finally accepts that landscape photographs are an art form he is coming to like. T
The tragic events of his childhood have long prevented Charles from entering his former home, but he eventually has the boards removed from the windows so Amy can photograph to her heart's content, but the ghost of his deceased mother keeps crossing in front of Amy's lens.
