Marilyn Turkabout this book: When visiting historic places, I love to step back in time and imagine being there then. The Gilded Curse is a step back to the end of the Gilded Age in 1942 when the lives of the "rich and famous" had been forever changed by depression and war. A visit to Jekyll Island and its once-glamourous millionaires' cottages in the exclusive Jekyll Island Club introduced me to life in the "village," and the people were used to be there. Lexie Smithfield and Russell Thompson, characters in The Gilded Curse, are intertwined with real people from 1942 as they face the challenges of a changing world. In fact, in my mind, all the characters really existed. Who's to say which ones were real and which ones were fictitious?
People who enjoy historical fiction will enjoy The Gilded Curse and will discover interesting facts about how World War II affected the coast of the United States, secrets that the US Government tried to hide from the citizens at the time.
