Book: Echoes of Time (The Guernsey Novels Book 5) by Anne Allencategories: Book, Dual-Time Historical, Ghost, WWII German Occupation, Channel Islands, Family Saga, Romantic Mystery
Anne Allenabout this book: I loved writing this book! Echoes of Time is my first dual-time, time-slip novel and was so interesting to write. It's set partly in German-occupied Guernsey in WWII, following Olive's story, and partly in present-day Guernsey with Natalie who ends up buying what was Olive's old farmhouse. That's when the fun begins! Natalie has weird dreams, as if she is someone else, someone living in a different time, and also hears and sees things that aren't 'real'.
Olive was unhappily married to a farmer, Bill, who turned out to be a bully and a miser and her life worsened when the Germans invaded and food and essential items became scarce. Bill hated the Germans and took out his anger on poor Olive who found a kindred spirit in a German officer.
The events of the past echo down the years and Natalie and her neighbour, Stuart, Olive's grandson, gradually piece together what happened to Olive 60 years before.
• 'Not only is the plot packed full of twists and turns, but the setting - and the characters - are lovingly described.'
• 'I was hooked from the 1st chapter and subsequent chapters didn't disappoint.'
