Virginia Higginsabout this book: The Unexpected Life of Carnegie Lane centers around a woman who has her world pulled out from under her when her husband runs off with a younger woman. She leaves her home taking her children with her, yet she lives in her mind, in the memory of who she was long before the children came. Carnegie Lane had a dream one night, and was given a story, which she wrote down. After finishing a manuscript, she sends the story off to England in the hope that it would be picked up and published. What she ended up with was an adventure that nearly takes her life, yet it also brings her a romance she never believed possible.
It begs the question. What would you do if you were given the chance to have your dreams back, 20 years later?
The cover for this book is a collection of band posters I have kept since the 80's. The story has a lot of music in it. I can't live without my music and having the opportunity to go back and listen to songs from the 80's while I wrote this was inspiring! I guess the hardest part of writing this was the parallels to my own life, and digging deep enough to find the emotions that I gave first hand to my character Carnegie Lane.
This story will spark you once again into believing anything is possible, if you are brave enough to put one foot in front of the other, and trust that the universe really is on your side.
