BUTTERFLY BOOKSabout this book: The nobility in England start from Saxon times over one thousand years ago:
The Earls were appointed by Saxon leaders, with Barons and Sheriffs each for a specified area of land, villages and people. The Earl of Peterborough was one but from time to time the title had became extinct as that blood line expired, and later a new Earl would be appointed by the Crown.
The title of a Duke or a Marquis originated many years later than Earls, and were mainly the members of the Royal family.
Over years the land owned by many of the Earls was reduced in size, largely to pay taxes, but other acres might have been gamboled or wagered away.
Claudia married William the heir to the Earl of Peterborough, after being introduced by his younger brother Benjamin, largely due to his good looks, but she was disappointed as he appeared to prefer fast cars and planes to his wife! William died in a plane crash.
Claudia, his widow, stayed to assist the Earl to manage the farm, the beef cattle, and the magnificent huge black Shire horses. A year or two later Benjamin who had been working for a medical charity in Africa, had to return to London when his father, the Earl, died.
You, the reader, must pick up the story from there!
