Fiona J Robertsabout this book: Having barely recovered from the trauma of his divorce Jerry is made redundant from his jobs. Without his habits and rituals he finds life difficult and he struggles in the face of his most recent setback.
His neighbour Maggie sees a man in distress and decides to offer him help. She introduces him to group of pensioners who are renovating their local community centre and his skills as a carpenter are used to assist them. Maggie is a bit of a busybody but on this occasion she feels she has done the right thing.
As he meets more people Jerry learns more about himself and develops ways to cope better with the trials of life. His daughter Jess watches as he begins to find his happiness and stop worrying so much.
His kindness leads to a new job and a meeting with a woman who he thinks he might like. Jerry makes new friends, finds romance and just might become a hero.
