At 6'5" he was a massive hunk of a man, the epitome of what you wanted in a firefighter. Too bad his manners weren't as flawless as his physical appearance -- arresting dark eyes, massive arms and chest, and the most sensuous lips she'd seen on a man.

But he could go to hell for all she cared. After getting her temper under control, Ashe looked up at the giant of a man, and said, smooth as glass, "Do you work with Indians? Hispanics? Blacks? Short people? Convicts?" Mr. Stevens. "Or, is it just women you're opposed to?"

He realized that this little hell-cat was making a fool of him in front of his crew, and the assorted workers in the hanger -- and she wasn't even raising her voice to do it.

Her argument might have made sense to the crowd gathered around them, but it didn't change his mind one bit. The searing images he carried of his late wife, Gemma, in his head had sealed his belief in stone -- firefighting was a man's work. Period.

But soon Matt realized that he'd be fighting two fires on this mission ... and one of them he had no idea how to put out.
