Book: Picasso On a Napkin - Lyric Poems, Songs, Rants & Raps by David Simmondscategories: Book, Rhymes & Raps, Environmental Concerns, Social Issues, Literature, Vocal Training, Rhymes
David Simmondsabout this book: This is a collection of metrical verse accumulated over a number of years. The time span bridges my days as a lyric writer for advertising commercials, popular songs in the music world and crossing into the present time, These are the lyric poems of Sunlight and Shadows.
The book also contains song lyrics written for the musical compositions of Erik Satie. A collaborator with Picasso and Jean Cocteau on 'Parade, an avant- garde musical first staged in the early years of the 20th century. Many of the lyric, poems, rants and raps are conveyed with a humorous tone. Other pieces: Chaos, Drizzle and Bedlam, confront problems caused by human kind to each other and also to the well-being of the planet. There is a strong recommendation for the poems to be read aloud and by doing so, discover the music in words. Would love to hear from readers as to their thoughts on the individual poems and the collection as a whole. Enjoy!
