Author Brian Robertsonabout this book: Riotous Retirement, Easy reading and a laugh a minute.

Riotous Retirement is a book of 15 short stories about life in the imaginary Burnside Retirement Village. Those who manage or own life style or retirement villages, and are trying hard to sell the units, continually boast about peace, harmony and tranquility in such places. There may be some retirees who are looking for this but believe me the great majority are looking for something more exciting and they usually get it.

This book is about the life of those in the latter group. They are the ones who embrace the freedom retirement brings. They continually question every rule and regulation, they demand their rights, keep management on their toes and love to interfere in the lives of others and, of course, it is where those who write stories about such people live!

One of the authors of this book lives in a retirement village (he has not been asked to leave yet!) and the other has recently retired from managing retirement villages.

The book is an eye-opener for anyone who is considering buying into a retirement or community village or for anyone who just wants a good laugh. Those of a certain age will be able to see their neighbours in this book. We guarantee it!

Each story starts with a cartoon showing a scene form the story coming from the imagination of cartoonist Gary Young. Gary also created the illustration for the cover, which is a scene from the story A Health and Safety Audit.

At the conclusion of each story a short rhyming verse sums each story up and these were all written by Shirley Clark. The story A Health and Safety Audit ends with: -

Helga needed the village support
To receive a positive Audit report,
But Gabriel's lack of agility,
Liz Waverly's mode of mobility,
The result—who would ever have thought!
(See front cover!)

• "…The best way to describe the goings-on is to imagine a normal neighborhood on steroids. With the plotting, scheming and socializing of the residents and the management there is never a dull moment." — Marion Marchetto.

• "…Written in Australia, it reflects my own experiences living in a retirement community in Texas! I saw some of my neighbors. In fact, my wife and I looked at one another and jointly named the same characters where we live. (Yes, that includes staff!)." — William Henry Jacobs.
