Elizabeth Baileyabout this book: A song inspired this story. Elvis was singing You Don't Know Me while I was driving and the idea of my heroine Marianne, who secretly loves her best friend, came to me. The song talks of being too shy and afraid to take a chance, and when the opportunity arises, Marianne can't bring herself to tell the truth.
The first scene in the book mirrors the first verse of the song: "You give your hand to me, and then you say hello, and I can hardly speak, my heart is beating so." It then goes on to "you don't know me" and we find out about Marianne's secret.
I took the title from the song as well: "I let my chance go by" became A Chance Gone By. The story is the second in my Brides by Chance series. Imagine those women of the Regency who never hoped to marry - poor relations, women with no dowry, no access to the social scene where they might meet a husband. All my heroines find love in spite of these drawbacks. They are really Cinderella stories, winning out beyond their wildest dreams.
