One of the reasons I decided to write this book was as a parent, I am blown away by the lengths I would go to to protect my children. Maybe I wouldn't dare to go as far as my characters--but who knows how we would behave if presented with such a dilemma?
The illness in this book is fictitious, although the symptoms it presents are synonymous with a lot of other brain illnesses that also cannot be treated. My step-father died of such an illness and so I am familiar with how cruel and debilitating such an illness can be. Add to this the fact that its happening to a small child and it takes to a whole new level.
