Su Williamsabout this book: BREAKING NORMAL is the final book in the Dream Weaver Novels series. The story wraps up the saga of Dream Weavers Emari Sweet, Nickolas Benedetti and Sabre James. Dream Weavers (Onar Caphar) are quasi-immortals with the power to manipulate memories and dreams. And their arch nemesis, Thomas, the Nightmare Wraith (Rephaim) is still out for their blood. Thomas continues to plague the Weavers throughout the series, but his torments escalate in Breaking Normal as he drags Em's friends, Jesse and Ivy into the mix, and lures her pup, Eddyson into peril.
Since the death of her parents, Em has only wanted her life to return to 'normal', but with the chaos her life has become, 'normal' doesn't exist anymore. She slogs through the phases of grief, and with Nick's betrayal, rage festers in her heart. Will she ever be able to forgive this man she's grown to love?
Using her new Caphar gifts and her magical spider Ari, Em teams up with Officer Molly and the Spokane Police Department to solve open cases, both cold and new. Finally, Emari is able to channel the anger and sorrow into something productive. She hones her body and skills to become a daunting contender in the war against the Wraith.
• "WOW! Excellent pace, wonderfully flowing narrative, and an ethereal sense of excitement throughout!"
— Mark Wilson - author of dEaDINBURGH
• "Another great [story] from Williams. This book phased me from fantasy skeptic to fantasy believer! Looking forward to more work from this author. I will follow her anywhere!"
— James Moser - author of Chasing Prophecy
The Dream Weaver series is written for the Young Adult reader (ages 15+) but is fully capable of crossing the lines into New Adult and Adult. Breaking Normal took 4 months to write, a far cry from the 5 years it took for the first book Dream Weaver. But I was able to put into use all the info I learned while writing the first two books, so it didn't take so long.
Originally, Breaking Normal was entitled Private Eye. That was the original vision 6 years ago when I decided to write the books. But by the time Emari and I got to the last book, it turned out, she wasn't much of a private detective...more of a police consultant. So I fussed and argued over various titles...Sweet Terrors, Dare to Dream...but the basic message was that Em just wanted to get back some sort of 'normal' despite the huge changes she's gone through. In the end, everything 'normal' was as broken as she was.
Research for the book was fun. Lots of visiting local architecture and reading local historical info. Which is a huge shock to most who know me...I am not a history buff.
The cover is designed by me, using Powerpoint and Printmaster. I found a couple of great images on Dollar Photo Club, but colleagues said it just wasn't right, it didn't fit with the original brand established by Dream Weaver. But I couldn't afford the original artist this time. Finally, one of my all time favorite writers, Sam Whitehouse said 'it's just not ethereal enough.' Oh is that all? So I spent hours and hours manipulating images to finally come up with the Breaking Normal cover and a remake of Rock Star's cover. Now they fit the brand!
