Becky Ayersabout this book: Unwanted Gift is a paranormal novel about 16 year old Cammy Dawson, who comes into her gift of "sensitivity" and isn't happy about it. Cammy has a very hard time dealing with hearing voices and seeing dark shadows in her home, but to make things worse, her younger sister Tara thinks she is being ridiculous and harasses Cammy about it. Cammy eventually tries everything she can from ghost hunting with her friends inside her home, to visiting a psychic to understand what all the cryptic messages mean.
I wrote this book because my eldest daughter is a sensitive and it began at a young age. As a matter of fact, she is the girl on the cover. The hard part of writing Unwanted Gift was trying to make the young characters talk in a way that would keep today's young adults interested, without using bad language. Writing this book taught me that the sky is the limit when creating a storyline. Even though the writer needs to make sure it all makes sense, you can do so much that you may not do in reality.
The book was given that name because the main character Cammy comes into her gift without warning and is frightened to death by it, hence the name "Unwanted Gift". I hope everyone enjoys reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it. And be sure to watch out for the sequel "Unwanted Future".
