Nancy Sartorabout this book: Six children living on the edge of the rational world develop a psychic connection that allows them to feel each other's strongest emotions. In adulthood, they pair off, male and female, husband and wife, and leave tiny Rugby, Tennessee for bigger, more lucrative places. Until Rugby calls them back, one-by-one and plunges them all into a battle that rages across time and space to save a life nobody wanted.
The idea for BLESSED CURSE followed a trip to Rugby, Tennessee, where I fell in love with the unique history, the incredible buildings and the courage of those who fought to keep this special place alive and well. Rugby has its own ghosts who appear on a regular schedule to do their forever things, but the story that grew for me was darker, deeper and more frightening.
Jorie came to me first. As far as I can remember, I have never before known a "Jorie." I had to ask her to explain what "Jorie" was short for. She immediately replied Marjorie and then added Morningstar, explaining that her mother had a strange sense of humor. Morningstar didn't make it into the final cut because it fit neither the tone nor the shadow of the story, but I got a good laugh from it nonetheless. Logan showed up as Rodney, but since the Rodneys of this world require tons of explanation to make them hunky and the Logans are hunky the second you hear their names, Rodney became a Logan. (We writers do not always let the Muse dictate.) One by one, the characters walked out of the mountain mist, claimed their spot in the story and began to chatter.
