Book: One Soldier's Story by Jim Akerscategories: Book, Vietnam, 9th Infantry Division, War, One Soldiers Story
Jim Akersabout this book: This book is about my service in the United States Army. It takes place from the time I was drafted, including basic training, advanced Infantry training and then, my tour of duty in Vietnam with the 9th Infantry Division from 1968 through to 1969 and the end in 1970.
I wanted to leave a detailed description of my military and war experiences for my children and grandchildren. A part of me that no one knew.
I have found that all age groups are interested in my story from age 14 on up. The younger ones see this as educational, the older ones, entertaining.
I spent about two months putting this together. A program on the History Channel inspired me to write this book. The memories were always there. I chose the Cover because it depicts the kind of guy I have always been. Fun loving, humorous and have found it is good to make the best out of any situation. The hardest part to me was the typing. The only research involved was to double check some of the dates. The writing of this book was very good much needed therapy. I want my readers to get a sense of them being there with me.
what to read next: if you read and liked this book...
