about this book: From the first cover design concept to the finished product, my thought process was: less Baz Luhrmann, more Guy Ritchie. I think that speaks volumes of the novel itself. Rise and Run started life as a crime noir short story. I fell in love with the characters and their evolution. From the pacing to the literary noir elements, everything just came together. Now, Rise and Run is a noir thriller with a sci-fi bent. When I decided to take the sci-fi, route I dove so deep into genetics that I got a certificate from UBC. Rise and Run is dark, action-packed, and inappropriately funny at, well, inappropriate times. There are a lot of Easter eggs in the novel, as well (some more overt than others). If you're a nerd (or organized crime enthusiast), you'll appreciate it. Rise and Run superficially explores the idea of "A Villain;" that we all have it within us to be the victim, the hero, or the villain. Redemption is once choice away. What will you choose?
