Alexandra McCannabout this book: Angels Can't Swim is a novella that focuses on mental health and sexuality in college swimmers. It follows three teammates through a semester of life's ups-and-downs. It also deals with the girls' relationship with their coach, who tends to cross certain boundaries. While based around swimming and a swim team, the book is about much more than just sports.
I was inspired to write this book by my own experience as a lesbian student-athlete and with mental health issues. Many of the events in the book are inspired by my own life, while others are fiction. The book was a long time coming and much of it was actually written over time while I was in college.
With this book, I hope to spread awareness of some of the struggles that college students and student-athletes in particular face. New adult readers will absolutely enjoy this book, especially those interested in athletics or mental health and sexuality. Older adults and parents of new adults will enjoy the book as well.
