Jinx Schwartzabout this book: First in this series, Just Add Water, introduces Hetta Coffey, a sassy Texan who snags a snazzy yacht, and an ocean of trouble. And now Hetta's ready to test her seagoing skills, taking her boat to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Over 1200 miles south.
In the Pacific danged Ocean.
During hurricane season.
See a problem here? Hetta doesn't. After all, she and her best friend, Jan, have hired a perfectly good boat captain for the trip, haven't they? And she's even landed a job in Magdelana Bay on the way down to pay for the trip. Except for an amorous whale, some Mexican bad guys, and a hurricane or two? piece of cake.
When we chugged out under the Golden Gate Bridge and hooked a left, our own cruising adventure to Cabo began. Our boat was a seaworthy coastal cruiser (a 42' Californian trawler), and we had spent two years getting ready to go. My husband is a seasoned boater, and I had learned a great deal since buying the boat before meeting him. I was, however, fairly intimidated by the 800 miles of ocean between San Diego and Cabo, and not without reason: Once you enter Mexican waters, you are on your own. No marinas or fuel docks (as we know them) past Ensenada, and certainly no US Coast Guard handy. However, it was a grand adventure for us, and a great way to gather stuff for a book. Or in this case, a series.
